Hello folks. Happy Tuesday and first potential snowy evening for those of us in Maryland.
Thought maybe I’d go over some logistics and details, so yes, this entry might be boring but I’ll try to include some fun things.
I’ve added those of you who requested to be emailed to the list. If you clicked “follow” on the blog then you’ll need to check your blogger often to see if we’ve made updates. I think we’ll probably post 1-2 times weekly. You can also subscribe through the RSS feed and I’m not going to go in to those details because I don’t understand it but if you have RSS you are more advanced than me and probably don’t need an explanation anyway.
That’s really all the logistics I have – SO
What’s in a name? We like blogs with catchy names and to be honest, we came up with this one all on our own 🙂 Of course, once we decided on the concept we had to select which words we actually wanted to include in the name. Do you know how many words start with MIS? Actually – it’s 111 in the Webster Dictionary – not to mention all the words that have the “mis” sound somewhere in them. We narrowed that list down to 11 words. We excluded words like mishmash (hodgepodge), misogyny ( a hatred of women), missal (a book that contains all that is said or sung at mass during an entire year), mistletoe, Mississipian, an aproximately 95 others. What did we come up with?
MSinformed
MSadventure
MSillaneous
MSapprehend
MSeducted
MSguided
MShap
MSlabel
Msrepresent
Mssion
Msunderstand
See a theme? For me, Sadie, it was about even after all these months not having a full understanding of what MS really is. Not knowing if I ever will. Not sure if I’m ready to know. For Gary and I, it was about misunderstanding by friends and family about how much this impacts him – and how sometimes it doesn’t. It was about our search for understanding about why this happened to us. Was it a MShap? Do people MSunderstand? Are we going on an MSadventure? Yes. Yes. Yes.
But we also were coming from the other side. For Gary, he’s wanted to make sure people are educated and informed about what MS is, how it’s treated, what impacts it, how people get it, etc.
So we’ve juxtaposed the positive and negative. Yes, many people aren’t informed about MS, and maybe don’t understand the impact it has on the lives of those people living with the disease. But our MSsion is to INFORM people, we want to help them UNDERSTAND, and help GUIDE them to take action and become involved.
So here we are. And our tag line? It’s our MSsion to end MS.
Aren’t we cute. and catchy.
